Sorry it's so late guys! This week has really kicked my ass and this has taken me about 4 nights for some reason. It's probably a bit shorter than usual too, but better to have a short one than not at all I hope :)

Since the last episode, Mini Merlin and Arthur had seemed rather excited by the changes in their lives. It was a new era, now Arthur was King and Merlin had his own dragon, and they were both anxious to see what episode 5 would bring.

Mini Merlin had been putting in a great deal of research, just to make sure he was ready for the challenges that would now face him as a Dragon Owner.

Research

Meanwhile Mini Arthur was preparing for what the Radio Times had promised would be his first challenge as King.

Fortunately, his Kingly Stance needed only minimal work.

Like Merlin, he also put in some serious research time.

The Radio Times had promised him a challenge after all and in Arthur's long and varied experience, that could only mean one thing.

Jousting.

Having read the reviews on my flist, I feared they were going to be disappointed.

Still, I supplied them with their usual viewing snacks and we settled down to watch.

As the episode began, excitement was still high.

However it quickly turned to confusion at the rather unexpected prologue.

Either this was a dream, or Arthur had let his recruitment standards slip alarmingly.

As the episode continued, it soon became clear there was no dragon and the jousting was taking a very long time to start.

But before they could even begin to mount a letter writing campaign to the BBC, something happened that was so terrible, so upsetting and uncalled for, that it shocked Mini Merlin down to his very core.

Arthur said he didn't need his advice.

Merlin did not take it well.

If he was THIS shocked, it was probably a good thing he hadn't seen much of series 1-3

It wasn't long until disaster befell the Kingdom and war threatened.

At this point I was obliged to point out that I was watching the exact same episode as Mini Merlin and he'd said no such thing.

Right.

Anyway, things were going badly, and I started to get the feeling it was affecting Mini Arthur.

Damn it, he was supposed to be JOUSTING

Naturally, I was worried, but it seemed I wasn't the only one who noticed.

I hoped this might help to heal the rift.

Apparently Merlin wasn't the only one who was always right ;)

As the episode entered its exciting final part, the boys seemed to be friends again.

This was definitely a good thing, the final fight was tense enough as it was.

Tension

But of course, Arthur prevailed and as they rode triumphantly back to Camelot, there was much rejoicing.

It was time for the scores, and this week the episode scored quite highly! Well... mostly.

Merlin was over for another week, but I found myself hoping the boys had taken something away with them this week about the importance of compromise, understanding the point of view of others and seeking accommodation with them on the important issues that could affect your future.

It looked like someone had been on Thesaurus.com

It was not quite what I had in mind.

I think Merlin's going to be waiting a while ;)

The Mini!Merlin and Mini!Arthur and Baby Dragon hug is fantastic. And I'm sure the minis were just there to comfort baby dragon, it had absolutely nothing to do with comforting each other. Nope, not at all.

(an I love how baby dragons wings cheered - and deflated- along with the minis). Great review as always.
