Nabbed from Google Images for your Sunday amusement <3

No way dude. Not until I know what the deal is with those piglets.

...Let's not speculate how. The train was stopped and Candy was a heroine, that's the most important thing.

Yeah, that pony is side-eyeing you. Can you blame it?

Just not, you know, all the time.

Judy supposed it could have been worse. She could have been voted 'Best Personality'.

Brilliant! What is with those pigs!? And they loved to laugh - !!

Oh dear, they made me laugh anyway!

I don't know! And it looks like he has a smear of blood on his face... And the other book mentioned is 'Someone's been sleeping in my bed.' It's not adding up to epic romance, unless it's between a man and his bacon. Just sayin'

I think he is supposed to be the Wolf from the 'Three Little Pigs' It mentions its a fairy tale in the bottom right hand corner so I reckon the other book was a porny Goldilocks story.

Its all quite disturbing and has really ruined my childhood memories of fairy tales.

Sigh, a man and his bacon. Not that IS a epic romance! BOAF loves bacon!

Oh dear, meant to type "Now that IS..." Totally deflates the humor. BOAF really sighs this time but still loves his bacon.

Who on earth would be compelled to buy the first with that cover. Your comment for the last one cracked me up.

I was wondering about 'They Loved to Laugh' is the perspective just off or is she meant to be a girl?

Just showed the BF this post and gave him a good chuckle :)

I can't tell either. Is she just really small?

ETA: just googled it and... wow.

In 1831 in rural North Carolina, sixteen-year-old Martitia, newly orphaned and timid, comes to live with a large, boisterous Quaker family whose five sons delight in teasing and laughter.

So she's meant to be 16? Is that one of the Quaker boys? I'm going to go out on a limb and bet she marries one of them ;)

delight in teasing and laughter. that sounds slightly disturbing :S

Yeah I think you're right about her getting married to one of them. Though only after having fallen a little in love with each of them. She then has to deal with the dilemma of choosing the one she truly loves :)

My first thought was "They Loved To Laugh..." because it always puts things into perspective.

OK, share pics but NOT the search terms you used? I'm giggling over these, and I agree with you re the pigs. And WHY WHY WHY is he under a BLANKET with them? (insert obligatory pigs-in-a-blanket reference here)

Hahaha PIGS IN A BLANKET.

Damn it, why didn't I think of that??

I use so many random search terms, I can't even remember them all. I started (oddly enough) with 'Pullein Thompson' to find all their old pony books with their WTF titles and cover pics, and it spiralled from there. I find putting in eras in useful, like 1960s girls stories, or 1950s school stories, or whatever. I have NO IDEA how the dodgy romance cover came up :/

I'm guessing both Judy and the side-eyed pony are pondering whether Candy is one of the kids or the horse. In any case, the horse in question seems to be communicating, "You want me to do what? No, you come stand on the tracks." which seems entirely justified to me.

I laughed far too hard at that, thank you.

Oh wow. This just made my morning kind of awesome. These are hilarious. Also, I'm curious as two the two people writing the pony books. I'm thinking a sister started them, writing about Candy stopping the train to save the pony and then she is on her death bed and there's a tearful moment wherein she insists her sister keep the books going after her death, people what to know what happened to the pony. And the sister pats her hand and says, "Of course," while secretly thinking "It's only a pony," and doing an internal shrug of exasperation.

Just to shake up your fic a bit more, there are in fact THREE SISTERS. Christine, Diana and Josephine Pullein Thompson, they pretty much wrote ALL the pony books of my childhood (except for Ruby Ferguson's 'Jill' series). There is even a book about their lives apparently.

So... THE PLOT THICKENS ;)

Why are there pigs?? Whyyyy? (Do not go there, brain! Do not!) Also, "Someone's Been Sleeping in My Bed" = Goldilocks?

Why is she all grumpy if she's the nicest girl in school? These covers raises a lot of questions in my mind.
