Catching up (rather late) on the WIP Meme. I saw this going round a few days ago and meant to do it, but this week has turned out to be really busy and I forgot :( I signed up for a 'get shit done' thing too, but so far have only managed a crappy 600 more words of Jane Eyre. I will try again tomorrow. Merlin and Arthur are waiting for their moment, dammit!

Anyway, here's the meme :D Feel free to ask about any of them if you're interested. Some of the titles are a tad random.

Being Susan - Narnia
Isolda's Revenge
School Nemeses 10 Rearranged Version
School Nemeses 11 Final
School Nemeses 12
School Nemeses 13 in progress
Gwaine
Jane Eyre1
Jealous of Gwaine Fic
Merlin drunk on cider fic sequel
Riddle Merlin
The Problem with Knowing (Percy)
The first time it happened it was an accident - GIECAST
The second time it happened Arthur thought Merlin was dying
The third time they were travelling again - GIECAST'S FIC
Artword Fic

To finish - HAVE SOME PICS OF JAMIE BELL. Snagged from Tumblr and Google Images at various times.

and just for [livejournal.com profile] jamie15, Tintin fan extraordinaire!

Jealous of Gwain fic???!!! Is it what I think it is? *cheeeeeeeeeeeers*

Ahaha I know the one you mean but sadly, it isn't that one. HOWEVER, one of the reasons it's a WIP is because I've been siphoning off ideas from it to a possible Meeting the Minister extra where Arthur meets Perfect Gwaine (runner up for Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award TM) and is horribly jealous. Even though Merlin only has eyes for Arthur of course ;)

Hum, I think there was a misunderstanding. "What I think it is" is "a Arthur-is-jealous-of-Gwaine-because-Gwaine-is-fond-of-Merlin-and-perfect-but-Merlin-only-have-eyes-for-Arthur kind of fic"... so is it?

And more Meeting the Minister verse!!! YEAY! *dances*

Well I have one of those too in my wip folder :D It's getting there anyway!

Here's a bit of it...

That evening Arthur sat at his table, watching Merlin working at the kinks in his armour. He couldn’t help but notice that Merlin had been spending a lot of time with Gwaine lately. Come to think of it, every time he saw Gwaine outside practice, he seemed to have his arm slung around Merlin’s shoulders, or talking to Merlin, or laughing, or, well, standing there in the same room as Merlin. Everyone knew Gwaine’s reputation, and Merlin wasn’t exactly wise to the ways of the world.

Arthur frowned as Merlin reached for a cloth, his long fingers smeared with dirt, and imagined those same fingers buried in Gwaine’s hair, or gripping his arms, or...

He cleared his throat and shifted a little in his chair. “Merlin, as your master—”

“You’re not my master.”

“What?”

Merlin looked up. “Master suggests I actually obey you, which I don’t. Therefore you’re not.”

It took Arthur a few seconds to untangle that one, then he scowled. “As your Prince then—”

“Not that either, I’m from Ealdor.”

“Damn it Merlin! I’m trying to give you advice.”

“Is this going to be like the time you told me to stop giving the kitchen maids ideas by smiling at them?”

Arthur glared, “This is nothing like that, and there was nothing wrong with that advice.” He fixed Merlin with a very serious look. “I would like to talk to you about Gwaine.”

“Oh god,” said Merlin.

He looks gorgeous in that one, doesn't he <3

Artword is a bit of a cheat really, because technically it's finished - unless I decide to fiddle with it again. It was written for a fest last year which aimed to pair up writers and artists to produce a short piece together based on a certain theme. I can't even remember the theme now, something to do with space? Sadly my artist and I didn't make the deadline, but hopefully one day it will be posted :)

I'll post an excerpt, it cuts back and forth between an outsider's view of King Arthur and his great Sorcerer following a battle (in italics), and the reality of the relationship between Merlin and Arthur in private, where they can allow themselves to be vulnerable.

King Arthur stepped forward as the sorcerer dismounted – his boots sinking instantly into deep mud. “Then we thank you, truly” the King said, and around them men called their own thanks, the cold and wet forgotten in their relief. King Olaf’s eyes were speculative, cautious, but he too inclined his head at the sodden figure.

“Your King is fortunate indeed, for power such as yours would seem to be an army in itself.”

The sorcerer smiled a little, uncertain, but said “Thank you, your Majesty,” his bow jerky under the weight of his cloak and pack, then his gaze moved back to King Arthur, “And your army?”

“Victorious, of course,” said the King, to hearty shouts from the men. He grinned at them, acknowledging their enthusiasm, before he turned back, his smile easy, “Did you think we would lose?”

.....

“Ow!”

“Well, hold still then!” Merlin held the injured arm carefully, the scent of peppermint mingling with the smell of wet earth and the metallic tang of days old blood. “Why has this not been freshly bandaged?”

“There are others with greater need,” Arthur said stiffly, and then winced as Merlin glared and pulled the bandage tighter, frowning slightly at the broken skin.

“You look tired,” Arthur said, after a moment, and Merlin glanced up, hands still moving. His eyes were gold, Arthur noticed, but beneath them there were dark smudges like bruises on his skin, and his gaze lingered on them.

“I am,” said Merlin softly, twisting the bandage once more around Arthur’s arm, tucking the end under neatly – and Arthur couldn’t help but think the linen looked strange against his skin, too white and clean and delicate.

Merlin sat back on his heels and looked at him, fine exhaustion evident from the way he slumped, blinking slowly. Arthur thought about reaching out, tracing the shadows with his thumb as though he might wipe them away, but instead he just said, “Dragons and sorcerers not so easily defeated then, Merlin?” in his usual tone.

Merlin smiled, softly, “No more than Saxon armies are easily vanquished, I’ll warrant,” he said, and Arthur was all too conscious of the armour piled next to the cot, blood adorning the metal like rust.

Ooooh, I like!

I love when they are fixing each other up after battle - one of my favorite h/c things. ♥ when Arthur wants to wipe away Merlin's shadows.

I can't wait for the sequel of Merlin drunk on cider. :DDD

HOWEVER, I am intrigued by "Riddle Merlin". It sounds like a mystery! I am intrigued.

It probably sounds a bit more exciting than it is! I was reading an article about symbolism in paintings (of all things) in the Tudor period and how courtiers were accustomed to reading the 'messages' in the use and positioning of objects, costume, setting etc, and it got me thinking of things Arthur might find quite simple, but that Merlin just wouldn't have any experience of, having not enjoyed an extensive education and upbringing in a courtly culture.

ANYWAY, that led to me dreaming up a future fic where Merlin is court sorcerer and hugely famous, but a rival sorcerer comes to court and sets him a riddle - the really famous classical riddle "Which creature in the morning goes on four legs, at mid-day on two, and in the evening upon three, and the more legs it has, the weaker it be?” To Arthur, it's really obvious, but Merlin spends forever trying to puzzle it out in a very endearing fashion. That was about as far as I got. I'll paste a bit in (it's established relationship of course)

“It has to be a magical creature,” Merlin said, mainly to himself, as he continued to wear a groove in Arthur’s floor.

Arthur stared up at the deep red canopy of his bed and reminded himself that he had no-one but himself to blame.

“A magical creature with the power of metamorphosis.” Merlin continued, one hand worrying the edge of his tunic as he paced and paced and—

Arthur dragged his head up from his really very comfortable pillows. “Are you coming to bed?”

Merlin stopped and stared at him, his eyes were a little unfocused – which was probably thanks to the wine he’d been drinking at the feast. Arthur struggled up a bit more and patted the bed beside him in what he hoped was an inviting sort of way.

“Elemental,” said Merlin suddenly. “It must be elemental magic.”

Arthur let his head drop back with a soft flump and thought of the very many willing and attractive partners he might be sharing his bed with at that very moment. Maybe someone like Lady Viola, who kept trying to corner him in the armoury. He blinked up at the deep plush velvet. On second thoughts maybe not her. But a nice squire, or chambermaid perhaps. Not too voluptuous of course. He preferred them slender, tall. And dark haired. There was no shortage of willing partners where the King was concerned.

Just then Merlin – who Arthur couldn’t help but notice was slender, tall, and dark haired - frowned hard at a bed post and muttered something about the many legged spotted ?? and Arthur sighed heavily. All this speculation about squires and chambermaids was pointless anyway, he supposed, since Merlin would probably turn them into a newt. Or a chamberpot.

Pulling himself upright he reached out and managed to hook his fingers over the waistband of Merlin’s breeches on his second wander past the bed. It said something rather damning about Arthur’s powers of seduction that Merlin didn’t even notice for several seconds. Arthur gave a gentle tug and Merlin staggered a little sideways as Arthur drew him into the space between his open legs, letting his hand relax until only his knuckles were brushing the warm skin of Merlin’s stomach. Merlin was frowning down at him vaguely and Arthur had the horrible suspicion that a discussion of the habits of some rare magical beast was imminent.

“But if they can transform, why would that be affected by the time of day?” said Merlin, proving him right.

I just noticed that I'm so intrigued, I managed to use it twice in such a short comment. XD

Endearing is exactly right! How so adorable, Merlin? :D

He preferred them slender, tall. And dark haired.

Of course he does! I think Arthur just might have a very specific type. MAYBE.

Ahaha, I think Arthur is slowly learning to his detriment that once Merlin gets to thinking, there's no stopping him. Not even with Arthur's considerable powers of seduction. But I believe in him. He can do it in the end. :Db

This was adorable. Thanks for sharing the snippet. :D

Let's see if this will work this time - lj was being sutpid again yesterday :/.

Aw, 600 words is quite a lot! *cheers and waves her pompoms* Hang in there! :)

Oooh, so much good stuff to come on your part! I'm especially intrigued by the 'Merlin drunk on cider' and the 'The second time it happened Arthur thought Merlin was dying' fic - sounds like a lot of fun and fluff to me :)! (And do I spy some more Percy there? :D)

Finally: THERE'S A NEW POSTER?! I haven't seen this one yet! It looks very exciting and adventurous! And it's Dupont and Dupond in the top left corner - I love them! They're hilarious! (I don't know whether they're not called something else in English though ...)

Gah, I'm just glad I live in Europe and will get to see this in October already - the poor Americans have got to wait till Christmas as far as I know! I'd never survive :D!

EEEEEE Tintin! I read several of the books when I was a kid and I've been trying to find them in bookshops. No luck, sadly. Will still keep looking though.

Hahaha I see my name there twice and I'm like "Am I that demanding? *ponders* Yeah, I probably am." Oooh Percy! That title is very intriguing.

PS: The Island dvd arrived yey! *dances in glee* And I can play in on my laptop, I just had tweak the settings a bit. Thanks so much for getting it for me. *smooches*
