Ok, I have had a crap day and my stomach hurts and I have to drive 40 odd miles tomorrow SO I am reposting this character meme I have seen on my flist a few times the past couple of days. It looks like it could be fun :) :)

Character meme.

Comment with a character and I will tell you...

1. How I feel about this character.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon.

Things I will be able to comment on include: Merlin, Doctor Who (classic and new), Harry Potter, the Tortall books, Star Wars, Firefly, The Eagle of the Ninth, Jane Austen novels, Anne of Green Gables, and The Tudors (yes, this is just an excuse for some history stuff).

Oh boo:( That's awful. I hope your tummy upset clears soon.

I'd love to hear about Captain Mal:D

(and [livejournal.com profile] lewisian_gneiss and I have just co-written a cute little first dragonlord story. We are posting it soon. (I'm just waiting for her to post it.) Maybe it will be a nice distraction.

It should clear in 5 to 7 days :( I hate being female sometimes!

1. How I feel about this character. I LOVE HIM. He is witty and good hearted and a bit of a dork, what's not to love?
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Inara - that's the only one, I really needed her and Mal to get together! I even wrote crap fic about it.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Mal and Zoe, I love that they are best friends and old comrades and just know each other inside out <3
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. Um... I can't think of anything, he's one of my favourite sci fi characters!
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That he and Inara had revealed their feelings, preferably after an amazing argument.

I will keep an eye out for your fic <3 There is just not enough dragonlord fic in the fandom.

Ah, one of those tummy cramps:( I hate it when cramps take over my life.

Love your answers! Captain Mal is my previous (to Merlin/Colin Morgan) tv boyfriend. He was hot and dorky at the same time and I love that. I was curious what an unpopular opinion would be about him because I also have none. Too infatuated:)

Dragonlord fic posted!

1. How I feel about this character. She's adorable, and I love how that doesn't mean she can't be really keen on sex too. It's refreshing!
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Simon of course <3
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Kaylee and Mal make me laugh, and I love her friendship with Inara. Um.... I would have to go with Inara I think.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I really really dislike the way she rats out River in the episode where River saves her life. I found her really self righteous in that episode, and I usually loved her!
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That she got to show up a top Alliance engineer with her awesome knowledge of mechanics :D

I've only seen bits of the film so he might be a mix here of film, book and fanon...

1. How I feel about this character. I love his fierceness and his total loyalty . Also, I might have a giant crush on Jamie Bell so that helps too ;)
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. MARCUS. And maybe Marcus. And also Marcus.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Esca/scowling - they are Meant To Be.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I actually prefer the non-dramatic set up of the book where Esca is totally loyal to Marcus and that's never an issue, although I get why there is more dramatic tension in him hating Marcus to start with. I read both kinds in fanfic though.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That he had found a member of his family still alive ::sobs::

Date: 2011-08-06 10:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] colacube.livejournal.com
You've not seen the film?? But it's glorious.

Hehe, that's awesome. :D I like the dramatic tension because that snark and winning someone's trust is a big kink for me, but I can see the advantage.

That he had found a member of his family still alive ::sobs:: THIS.

::hugs back:: Thanks, hopefully it will be gone soon :)

1. How I feel about this character. She's great! The first time Doctor Who had fleshed out a companion's family and they manage to create someone as real and endearing as Jackie.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Pete Tyler, naturally.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Doctor/Jackie
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I wish she hadn't made Pete go back for Rose in Doomsday, I understand entirely why she did but DAMN IT JACKIE. It's that eternal pull I guess, between doing what you want and doing what your family wants!
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I wish she had had a proper trip in the TARDIS and an adventure with the Doctor, just one teeny alien adventure on another planet :D

Oh, I hope you feel better soon! *hugs* I had a bad stomach ache not long ago and it was awful dealing with it. :( I feel you on the frustration. Drinking tea helped. And water of course.

I'll bite with a Merlin character: Gwaine or Sir Gwaine as he is now I suppose. ;)

I am drinking tea and using a hot water bottle - which is helping :)

1. How I feel about this character. Hahaha oh dear... Well, in himself he's a perfectly nice character, but my M/A shipper heart will always resent him a bit for taking all the sweet character moments with Merlin.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. In canon, no-one yet. In fic, him and Elena seem fun!
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Gwaine/Alcohol
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I think he was inserted to take over some of the role Arthur used to play with Merlin and it has not endeared him to me.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That he'd told Arthur to be nicer to Merlin, Arthur got his head out of his ass as a result, and then maybe Gwaine went on a nice long quest.

:D

Hear, hear!! I'm right there with you on this. Gwaine is a perfectly nice character in himself, in fact quite charming and rakish, and of course he would have turned up sometime in one form or another. But his specifics are clearly meant to take the pressure off of the subtext between Arthur and Merlin. And given what the Arthur/Merlin dynamic has been, well, it's no accident Gwaine is both Merlin's new best friend and very pointedly heterosexual. I know it's petty and I really should rise above it but for that reason I don't read Merlin/Gwaine pairings. It's my little bit of protest. Long live Merlin and Arthur! [I tried to come up with a little chant. You know, like "the people...united...will never be defeated" but "Merlin and Arthur...united...will never be defeated" just doesn't have the right cadence even if it's the right sentiment.]

1. How I feel about this character. I love him a lot. I like his capacity for kindness and his sarcasm and his neckerchiefs.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. ARTHUR, ARTHUR and maybe ARTHUR.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Gwen and Merlin were really cute in series one.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. He was a more interesting and complex character in series one than he is now /unpopular
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That him and Arthur would be trapped together after a magic reveal and a whole episode subsequently gets devoted to the fall out as Merlin finally tells Arthur everything he has done for him and why he should be bloody grateful.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

From: [identity profile] magog-83.livejournal.com
1. How I feel about this character. He's a great 'mentor' character and I love his mysterious introduction in the first (4th) film. I like that's he's not ALL good and noble, he keeps secrets and is fulfilling a bigger agenda at times.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Ooooh I've never thought of that aspect. In the prequels, him and Anakin have some good banter going on so I could maybe ship that a bit :D
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Obi Wan and Yoda, two old masters with a lot of backstory. Also, Obi Wan and Amidala.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I seriously question his decision to make Luke grow up in a desert and disguise him with the not-at-all-obvious surname SKYWALKER. Probably not an unpopular opinion but I always headdesk when I think about it.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I really wish he'd been alive long enough to meet Leia and talk to her.

Do you mean Mini Arthur of Mini Them fame??

1. How I feel about this character. Exhausted! He causes me a great deal of trouble and keeps changing my computer home page to King Arthur's wikipedia entry and crossing out 'inaccuracies' in all my Arthurian texts.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Mini!Merlin, Himself.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Arthur/Chocolate
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. He would get his ass kicked by a Ken Doll.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I wish he was more bendy :( Mini!Arthur says his lack of bendiness is a sign of his uprightness of moral character and backbone.

Er, yes, that's what I meant. (Please don't tell your little Arthur I got his full name wrong. XD)

And I loved all your answers.
1.&3. Mini Merlin should find a better way to keep him occupied (or Arthur/Chocolate might get a romantic connotation)! ;)
4. Well, but a Ken doll is bigger, so it's not really fair. Arthur would have to treat it like an Avanc or some other large beast in the series and get Merlin's help.
BTW, was no.5 answered by you or did Mini Merlin get hold of the keyboard? ;)

Hope you're feeling well today.

Alanna from the Tortall books

(Merlin/Arthur reminds me so much of Alanna/Jon. Magic and knights, a prince and a newcomer with a Big Secret... ignoring that he eventually marries a suitable princess and she goes off with Gwaine George...)

Date: 2011-08-04 09:46 pm (UTC)

1. How I feel about this character. Alanna was the character that sucked me into the Tortall books. I admire her hugely, I wish I could be as steadfast, determined and brave as she is!
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Jon and George.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Daine.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I really wanted her to end up with Jon! George IS the better choice for her but... :( I find it hard to read about love stories ending, so her and Jon's story always makes me sad.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I wish she'd been able to help Kel openly, even though I understand why she couldn't. But they would have been a great knight and squire!

Ok, Gwen first!

1. How I feel about this character. I loved her in series one, and I continue to love her in fanon. I liked her awkwardness and fondness for Merlin (mixed with exasperation and occasional eye rolling) and loyalty to Morgana. In the show now I am increasingly 'meh' about the way she is written and the fact that she has pretty much replaced Merlin's earlier role.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Lancelot and Morgana. I've even written Gwen/Morgana. She and Lancelot are wonderfully intense and romantic on screen <3
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Merlin (for friendship).
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I probably have a few, depending on who people ship of course. My biggest pet peeve will always be the makeover after series one I guess. I felt it was insulting to Gwen and undermined the A/G relationship from the start for me - as well as making me want to punch the producers who thought she had to be 'prettier' to be the love interest. Um... unpopular opinion: for me, she and Arthur have never worked romantically because she has always seemed too 'old' for him, giving me an impression of an older and long-suffering sister, never a girlfriend.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That she would have a crazy passionate relationship with Lancelot. The girl deserves some actual passion in her life, not Disney cheese! Alternately, if they MUST go with A/G, that they had approached it in a more consistent way with Gwen joining in adventures with the boys and Morgana and showing herself to be resourceful and brave and slooooowly Arthur's opinions of her change and there was at least SOME attempt at banter.

Now Daine!

1. How I feel about this character. I LOVE HER. I love how powerful she is, and that she has this power no-one else in the human realm has. She's such a wild girl at the start, but always kind and funny and loyal with it.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Numair :D
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Alanna, Tkaa, and Brokefang.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I think her dad's a git and she needed to tell him so!
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I wish she'd been able to save Kitten's mother, that was so sad :(

Oooh, I agree with you about Gwen and Lancelot! My best friend always says that it's just because I don't want her to get together with Arthur, but I really do go 'awww' over their scenes together. With them it just feels more like they've got some obstacles to overcome - and that they've got to fight for their love, because it's not a given (which is what bothers me the most about A/G - they went from 'Hey, who does this prick/servant think he/she is' to 'OMG I can't live without you!!!' in the span of about two episodes ... at the most).

And ooh Numair :D! He was one of the first literary figures that I actually fell in love with ... I think I've still got a bit of a crush on him ... :)! (And yes - Daine's dad really was a git ...)

I get the same reaction re: Gwen/Lancelot. There's not really a way around that sadly. People will always think it's just to get her out of the way of the M/A. All I can say is that I cannot watch any A/G scene, my second hand embarrassment is just too much, I cringe. But when Gwen and Lancelot are having their scenes together, I am sitting there with a sappy smile on my face <3 I think the problem was that they went for classic 'love at first sight' with G/L and no, that's not always believeable in real life, but it WORKS and we accept certain things with that (thanks to Disney and Hollywood). We don't expect long conversations and discovering shared interests etc with love at first sight. It's an immediate and intense connection. But then they've tried to do the same with A/G, only it's NOT at first sight and we all know that so we DO expect something more than "OMG I'VE JUST REALISED I LOVE HER ABSOLUTELY AND CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT HER", it doesn't work as 'love at first sight' but neither have they given us anything to support the classic 'friends to lovers' plot :/

Not to mention, when you've got perfect noble Lancelot who loved Gwen when she was in an orange sack dress and was a nobody, and then you throw in Arthur who only loves her when she's had a makeover and falls on top of him with her cleavage out... I really don't understand how they expect us to ship the second pairing. If that was a Hollywood teen film, we'd be rooting for the first guy!

Date: 2011-08-04 10:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jamie15.livejournal.com
I really don't understand how they expect us to ship the second pairing. If that was a Hollywood teen film, we'd be rooting for the first guy!

You know what, that is EXACTLY it! You've really put your finger on the heart of the matter there! If I didn't know for pretty much a fact in which direction the producers/writers want to take the A/G/L story arc, namely that A/G is endgame, I'd have said for sure that Lancelot is Gwen's true love. Because if you take a closer look at them, THEIR relationship has got all the signs of a classic love story. They meet each other, fall in love, would like to be together but circumstances prevent them, he comes back but now there's a new guy ... and in the end he's supposed to get the girl, right? I think for me that is probably one of the most important reasons why A/G kind of seems wrong to me ... It's like, I don't know ... the beauty queen eventually does triumph over the smart girl who doesn't care about her looks in one of those Hollywood movies you mentioned ... it's just ... wrong!

From: [identity profile] magog-83.livejournal.com
Anne with an 'e' it is then <3

1. How I feel about this character. She is my kindred spirit. As soon as I discovered Anne of Green Gables, I felt like I had found someone like me (only FAR more organised and motivated in life). Her mind is truly a beautiful place, and she was FUNNY, that will always be her most endearing feature to me :)
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Gilbert forever! And for hilarity, the hired man who proposes to her in Anne of the Island :D He wanted a smart, tidy sort of woman after all! What more could you ask for?
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Anne and Diana, whatever else happens they'll always be bosom friends. Also Anne and Davy because they make me laugh.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. Even though I ship Anne/Gilbert 100%, I always feel a bit sad that after all her studying and achievement, she ends up being the 'wife' while Gilbert gets to have the big public career. A sign of the times I know, but I always felt resentful on Anne's behalf. She was as clever as him, damn it!
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That Anne had become a famous author!

Date: 2011-08-05 01:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] capricornucopia.livejournal.com
Anne is the best. :D And in retrospect, I shipped Gilbert/Anne (not hard to do) pretty much as soon he described her as having eyes unlike any other girl in Avonlea. Of course, the broken slate just sealed the deal for me.

I still can't believe Anne had so many proposals! The one from Jane's brother during the horseride was hilarious. I love Anne and Diana!

I knoooooow! I loved Anne's determination and how she fought her way to the top--it didn't come easily to her. And she gave up most of her ambition when she married. *sigh* I think she would have been a wonderful author! That Captain Jim outright dismissed her as the writer of his lifebook still rankles. D:

And I got so excited about this (I COULD DO THIS ALL DAY), I forgot to say I hope you feel better soon. ♥

Second, tell me how you feel about Morgana, please!

Thank you :)

1. How I feel about this character. Morgana is actually my favourite character. Not new pod!morgana, but series one Morgana with all the sarcasm and the fierceness. I have watched all her scenes so many times! The way she used to needle Arthur was just joyous to watch <3
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Gwen and Arthur. Arthur/Morgana is the only other pairing I've ever liked either Merlin or Arthur with, other than that it's exclusively the two of them. But Arthur and Morgana have that same dynamic that I tend to love in all my favourite pairings, snark and banter, hiding real affection. I also really enjoyed writing Gwen/Morgana, I think they complement each other well.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Hmmm... I found the relationship between Morgana and Uther really interesting, so maybe that.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I have never had a problem with Katie McGrath's acting and have always liked Morgana as a character a lot. I seem to be on my own with the first one at least, and Morgana is all evil now as well. I ignore evil Morgana though, fierce Morgana will always live on in my heart.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That she wakes up in the dungeons of Morgause's castle and says "OH MY GOD, WHAT AN AWFUL DREAM." and then she escapes and tells Arthur, Merlin and Gwen exactly what she thinks of them for failing to notice her being replaced by a pod person ;)

1. How I feel about this character. Usually in awe of his sheer determination and bravery! I would be hiding in the Room of Requirement from about book 5 onwards.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Ginny, I'm boring and go with canon.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Hermione! I love their friendship.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. Um... he could be a bit mean to Hermione sometimes, but only very rarely of course.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I wish we'd seen something of his and Draco's interaction after the last book, I am really intrigued by the hint that they're maybe not friends exactly, but they don't hate each other either. WHAT IS GOING ON THERE?

2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Actually I can't think of anyone!
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Doctor/Donna OF COURSE.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. I don't think the guy she ended up with in The End of Time seemed right for her, not sparky enough! And she'd still never be happy with a normal life, I bet she'd still secretly yearn for more.
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. That she'd been able to travel with the doctor forever!

1. How I feel about this character. I love his emotional constipation and his good heart and slight pomposity and his shiny hair and how much he absolutely cannot be without Merlin for longer than 10 minutes.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. MERLIN. And Emrys, and dark haired manservants wearing neckerchiefs and keeping deep dark secrets. Who says I can't multi-ship? Also Morgana, just a little ;)
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Arthur/Chicken - it's destiny.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. In series three especially, he doesn't deserve Merlin's devotion and help at all and he isn't ready to the king :(
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I wish that he could have found out about Morgana's magic and tried to help her. Somebody should have!

I'm a little late, but I'm going to say Amy Pond! :)

Oh dear, now I feel bad because I am not the greatest fan of Amy Pond. Although Karen Gillan is lovely :)

1. How I feel about this character. I've found her very difficult to relate to, especially as the set up for her is very 'fairy tale' which means I still don't feel like I know her at all.
2. All the people I ship romantically with this character. Rory I guess! aka Mr Pond.
3. My non-romantic OTP for this character. Amy and River were always fun to watch together.
4. My unpopular opinion about this character. She's not very grateful for the amazing opportunities she has been offered ::hides::
5. One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon. I wish we had learned more about her. The companions I love most are the ones I feel like I know and could imagine being friends with in real life, Jo, Sarah, Ace, Rose, Martha and Donna for example. I relate to them and through them to the Doctor and can imagine having adventures alongside them. You saw their families and their lives and worries. I think the aim for Amy was to make her hard outside (because of her abandonment issues) but for us to know she's not like that really. Unfortunately for me she's just come off as abrasive and unlikeable, however I've tried to see past that. It probably doesn't help that I have issues with Moffat's portrayal of female characters in general.

However she IS very beautiful and Karen and Matt are hilarious to watch in the behind the scenes stuff :)
