Back from work, and thank you so much to [livejournal.com profile] winterstorrm,[livejournal.com profile] cinnatart, [livejournal.com profile] capricornucopia, [livejournal.com profile] 1nagromniloc and [livejournal.com profile] toodelicious for my virtual gifts!!! That was such a lovely surprise <3

In Further Tales from the World of Retail, I bought myself a Euromillions lottery ticket before my shift this morning, because the rollover jackpot is something ridiculous like £166 million, and I was so busy planning what I would do with my win as I scanned away on the till that I told a lady her shopping came to "128 thousand pounds" instead of £128. Oops. I was forced to admit to her that I was mentally spending my imaginary Euromillions jackpot ;)

Then another woman accidentally tore open her packet of pig's liver and a load of blood went all over my hands. She found this hilarious and said "I hope you're not a vegetarian!" I am not a vegetarian, but neither am I an extra in Carrie (and anyway, I might have been one). It was pretty disgusting :/

Lastly lastly, I saw this amusing 1930s article on being a Young Lady in Manhattan on Gawker the other day and thought people might like to read it, particularly any New Yorkers on my flist :D

ETA: As you know, I enjoy snarky book reviews, and this one is excellent :D Rushed to the Altar by Jane Feather: A Book Rant from Dora

I also just saw this over at Digital Spy! Random famous people say brief stuff about Harry Potter (including our very own Anthony Head at 2.52-3.07)

Stars Pay Tribute to Harry Potter

Hope you're all having a good Wednesday!

Nice Freudian slip there! Made me laugh anyway. I hope the lady wasn't too upset with you and was much happier with her total when you got it right:D

Ugh on the pig's liver. What does one do with pig's liver anyway?

Here's something to make you laugh. Well, it made me laugh. Go check out Nathan Fillion's PSA on Swamp Ass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCf9M5GsDSs

Ahahaha that is HILARIOUS. I love Nathan Fillion so much, he's such a great sport <3 Even this tweets are funny.

I have NO IDEA what you do with pig's liver, it looks thoroughly disgusting.

:D So glad it made you laugh. Fillion is awesome.

DH claims that he lived on pig liver pate when he was growing up... He says as an adult he has not found it so palatable though:D

Maybe a pate wouldn't be so bad, mostly because you might not realise what it was. I suppose I can't be too precious about it, considering I am perfectly happy to eat pork sausages. It's just another bit, it just looks so grim.

I've just started watching Castle! The first series is showing now and I'm really enjoying it :)

I find all raw meat kind of gross. I just try not to think about it too much because I like to eat it cooked:D DH makes a great pate (chicken livers though).

Castle is a lot of fun (when not too grim)! I missed the first couple episodes though and haven't been able to watch them. It's a very interesting show and the relationship between Castle and Becket is clever and interesting.

My sister admitted to me that I got her watching Castle and the same will probably happen with Merlin. I'm holding my breath for her to "get it" with Merlin. She's watched the first episode and hasn't fallen in love yet. *sob*

I'm amazed she hasn't! I fell in love in episode one, fell deeper through series one, then my love got run over by a giant truck as series 2 and 3 progressed :/ But series one is the BEST.

I know! I love episode 1. I've probably watched it more than any of the others. I'm actually quite fond of S2. I think I like more of the eps in S2 than S1. I am still waiting for S3 to come out in Region 1 format. *sigh* I am about to start watching pirated eps of S3 again. But really, I have S1 and S2 on dvd and can happily rewatch them for a long time.

I should rewatch Firefly again too. Have you seen Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog? That was where I met Nathan Fillion and how I got into Firefly. Kind of backwards from most people, but it worked for me:D

I haven't seen the Blog, although I've heard of it. I saw him in Buffy first, then Firefly, and then Serenity of course :) I wish we had more Firefly!!

Oh, check out Dr Horrible if you can! It's great. That was my intro to Joss Whedon. I think one of the reasons I like Merlin so much more than Firefly is that there is so much more of it! It's tragic, really, that there wasn't more Firefly.

I wonder how one could spend 128 thousand on one trolleys worth of stuff. Hmmm...

Yay EuroMillions. Our work syndicate have bought a ticket.

Mmm linkerage.

It would be pretty impressive! The most I ever put through was £600 worth of alcohol.

Oh the amount of times I've almost come out with seemingly random things when talking to customers... I should probably pay attention to my job more. =/

This is where working with clothes is better... usually. Until someone comes up with like ONE t-shirt and half a trolley full of food. >.<
...I really want to know what her reaction would have been if you had gone 'Actually, I am'...

You mentioning clothes reminded me of your tweet about having to wear a t-shirt to advertise the clothing sale (or something very similar). When I worked at BHS, we all had to wear their knitwear one Saturday as a advert for a big push on that department. I had to wear a hideous fuschia pink jumper with a flower sewn onto the shoulder and we all had to leave the tags out so customers would know it was an advert. Not my favourite day ever.

I half wished I had said I was a vegetarian, just to shut her up!

*g* Good luck in the lottery.

That is pretty gross about the pig liver. But if you find that you can now move things with your mind, I think that might be a small sacrifice. :)

Thank you! I shall be sure to remember you, when I am a multi millionaire (I'll hire Colin for the afternoon and send him over with an exciting variety of biscuits).

Telekenesis would be extremely helpful, I would obviously use it for evil good.

as;dlkf WOULD YOU REALLY? *_* Here's crossing all my fingers and toes that you win. ;)

Of course! There are so many ways to use it for evil good. :3

That was pretty hilarious :D

I also loved her parting shot...

If what you want is a supremely unlikable “hero”, a supremely
stupid “heroine”, and supremely snore worthy “conflicts”, you can read
this book or alternately build a giant slingshot to hurl yourself into the
sun.

That pigs blood is....really gross. It would be one thing if you worked in the butchery department and intended to handle those things! I hope they gave you a break to go wash your hands and sanitize your scanner. Ick.

I don't buy lotto tickets often, but I think half the fun of it is just imagining what you'd do with it all if you won :)

From: [identity profile] magog-83.livejournal.com
They didn't :( But I had some sanitising wipes under the desk so I cleaned up with that and wiped my hands as best I could.

I am a rubbish gambler too, half the time I just forget but every few weeks or so I'll remember and put a pound on and then have a wonderful week planning everything I will do with my winnings!!

*giggles* Oops. Did you spend your imaginary millions well? (I've been known to mentally buy and decorate my future house. Well, the one that I would have if I had lots of money).

That's just not nice. I spend a good portion of my day handling other people's blood but I do it in gloved hands.

I did spend them well! I think I had replaced my clapped out car, visited Prince Edward Island and was just about to buy myself a lovely Georgian house with lots of woodland at the end of the garden (I have a vivid imagination).

Had to LOL about the Manhatten article. Some things never change. Ha.
