The Mini Thems visit a castle :D
May. 13th, 2011 10:47 pmLately, I had started to notice Mini Arthur spending more of his internet time looking up castles.

It was still an improvement on googling himself.
If I didn't know better, I'd have said he was a little depressed.

Arthur was so reticent about his feelings, it was sometimes hard to tell what was going on.
Mini Merlin agreed with me, and did his best to cheer Arthur up.

Well it would cheer Merlin up.
I had another idea however, only this time it was going to be a surprise.

Also, it was hard to be a backseat driver when you couldn't see where you were going.
Finally we arrived at Farleigh Hungerford Castle, and the Mini Thems were very excited.

First of all, Mini Arthur insisted on some pictures for the photo album, although it took a little work.

But eventually they were ready for their casual castle shots.

Then it was off to explore the new territory properly, beginning with the castle crypt.

There was nothing remotely scary about underground chambers full of dead people.
On second thought, when you'd seen one crypt, you'd probably seen them all.

They could read about it in the guidebook anyway.
Mini Arthur decided they could probably cover more ground if they split up, so he set off to scout out the defences.

Meanwhile Mini Merlin did some scouting of his own.

He'd heard there was themed stationary.
After a while I started to worry Mini Arthur was having a little bit too much fun looking over the defences and would never want to leave, especially when he found the perfect tower from which to survey the surrounding countryside for invading armies.

He didn't care what Merlin said, Arthur knew a good tower when he saw one and this one practically had his name on it.
To my surprise however, he decided it wasn't for him after all.

It was a stupid tower anyway.
At last, the Mini Thems were ready to leave and I met them at the entrance while Merlin quickly checked his purchases and Arthur gave his considered verdict on the day.

Merlin could say with confidence that the gift shop had been well and truly scouted.
Little did I know that there was one more surprise to come at home...

Arthur could not imagine where it had come from.

It looked just like him!

It was his favourite present ever - but its origins would forever remain a mystery, even to someone with Arthur's razor-sharp instincts
And so ended the trip to the castle ;)

They're blindfolded! That is completely adorable. I love them posing with their respective weapons and looking so gallant. Ah, what an adventuresome pair. Also the Lady Tower made me giggle.
Also as;lkdfj at the secret present! ♥_♥ Arthur getting a present is the cutest thing ever, and look how he loves it so! I haven't a clue who would do such a thing, but I think Merlin would agree with me that whoever did it is a very generous person indeed. *g* Totally made my day. :D

Date: 2011-05-16 12:25 pm (UTC)With some pictures I can't help but wonder how long it must have taken to get them to pose like that. Have you ever tried something that just wouldn't work? Have you ever been side-eyed by random bystanders while you were setting up a scene? Haha! I'd love to see a blooper reel for these adventures!

Date: 2011-08-07 10:07 am (UTC)It does take FOREVER sometimes to pose them. Neither of the figures are balanced very well so as soon as you add any prop, the weight is all wrong and they fall over. I've used sellotape, blue tack, adhesive squares and my hand (which is then cut out of shot) to try and keep them still. And they STILL head dive off of shelves and gates and all sorts. Mini Merlin actually has a slight bald patch now from falling off the gate at Glastonbury Tor one too many times. I've learned amazing patience whilst doing these as I just repeatedly stand them up and they fall over and I stand them up again x57.
The one thing that hasn't worked and I STILL want to do it is them wearing little pairs of glasses. I have a funny idea I would love to do but they are just too small and it's too fiddly :( I have tried but no luck yet. Vensre has found a tiny pair of glasses though that they're going to send to me so I am not giving up quite yet :D
I am lucky with random bystanders because I have a partner in crime while making these outside the house, my mother. For some reason, she does not think I'm crazy and wasting my time, she actually watches for people approaching whilst I tape them to steps and gates and coach windows, and occasionally blocks their line of sight while I quickly snap a picture. She knows all about my fandom activities and finds them quite amusing. Luckily for me. Glastonbury was the hardest one to disguise what I was doing though, even though we went on a Sunday it was still busy there and so I just had to go for it when I could and at the top of the tor I just ignored the funny looks and took my pics anyway. It's amazing how much you can do before any polite Brit dares to ask about it :D :D Same for Farleigh Hungerford Castle, we went on a Sunday when it was quiet and waited for people to wander off before I quickly posed them. I work out most of the story in advance anyway so I know what pictures I want.
BLOOPERS. I only have a couple I can think of (normally I don't catch the moment they fall over on camera) but I will post them here.
This one isn't quite the same kind of blooper but me and mum laughed so hard when we saw it, I was SUPPOSED to be getting the tower on top of the Tor in the centre of shot, but instead I blocked it out completely and made my 'over compensating' point a little TOO well :D
