Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't replied to the replies I had to my last entry yet, I fully intend to (and I am really grateful for all the wonderful advice) but it's all been up in the air today because my brother Richie (long-suffering brother who attends all the Merlin expo panels for me and texts me info) is in Japan on holiday. We heard he was ok and just stranded somewhere at about lunchtime today, but now there is this nuclear emergency and he's only about 70 miles away from the power station. My mum and I deal with this sort of family stress is very different ways, she likes to go on and on about it and imagine worst case scenarios, I like to try and not think about it until I know anything for certain. As you can imagine, these methods do not mesh well.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that all my thoughts are with those in Japan right now, and anyone affected by it, or who has friends and family anywhere affected xx

I'm just watching a live broadcast from a brilliant guy who actually answers people's questions in a live chat: http://yokosonews.com/live

I hope that you're brother is alright! It's such a terrible tragedy over there .__.

Thanks for the link!

It's terrible, the devastation is awful to see and I'm only glad it's a developed country that has some experience with earthquakes already. I hope tomorrow brings better news for everyone over there x

Thank you, it's greatly appreciated. All the best to your husband as well, and I really hope he hears from his colleagues soon. We've heard from people with relatives in Japan that internet and international calls are pretty bad right now so hopefully that is the reason for all the hold ups with news xx

That's where Richie was too, although I think he was travelling somewhere else today.

It's terrible to see what's happening over there, but it looks like people are already giving what they can to help, and I definitely will be too <3

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. ♥ I hope your brother will be all right during the trying situation in Japan now. At least Japan has dealt with this situation before, so that helps... I was worried about the area surrounding the nuclear power plant.

Thank you ::hugs::

That does seem to be the biggest worry at the moment, all those poor people that live nearby much be terrified. But as you say, Japan is experienced with this sort of thing which is some comfort at least.

Richie's back in Tokyo today and in touch with the British embassy so we feel a little better about him now.

It is so horrific, what has happened to Japan. I'm glad your brother is safe, though. And 70 miles is a long way. Far enough for evacuation, if needed.

I hope so too! It's very scary to watch and I can't imagine what it must be like over there. Richie got in contact today and he mentioned he was still feeling aftershocks. He's in contact with the embassy so hopefully it won't be too long until he gets home <3

Glad to hear it :)! It must be so horrible to be in Japan right now -.- but from what I've heard they're trying very hard to get the situation under control. Still, it seems like the past decade has just been crowded with disasters! I actually read in the newspaper today that it was the worst chain of natural disasters in history :(

And also, I'm sorry, I know this is going to sound completely random but I've got to know: Do you have Milka chocolate in the UK? (... I'm trying to look for some gifts for the family I'm going to stay with and can't think of anything -.-)

Date: 2011-03-13 07:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] magog-83.livejournal.com
Hahaha yes, we do have Milka chocolate! Although it's not widely sold yet. I had only ever eaten it in Austria, then a few years back it suddenly appeared in some of the supermarkets :) I'm sure it would be appreciated, we only have a few kinds here, just the normal bars of chocolate, either milk choc, that swirly milk and white chocolate, or the ones with bits of Dime (Daim?) bar :)

Date: 2011-03-13 07:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jamie15.livejournal.com
Oh, well in that case I think I'll bring some Milka with me :D! Thanks! The other option would've been the Mozart balls - and from what I know not everybody likes Marzipan (plus, I just noticed, they sound really weird in English ...)

But you know what's really strange? I've rarely ever seen the one with the Daim stuff sold in Austria - the most common kinds are the normal ones and the ones with hazelnut ... and caramel recently. :)

Date: 2011-03-13 08:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] magog-83.livejournal.com
Hahahaha Mozart Balls would certainly be a talking point!! :D Are they just marzipan balls??

I love the Daim ones, they are my weakness :) :) Those and the milk and white chocolate ones. MMMMMMM.

Date: 2011-03-13 08:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jamie15.livejournal.com
Oh God, that would've been the worst introduction ever ... "Hi, my name's Miriam, would you care for some Mozart balls?" ... *headdesks*

As far as I know the core consists of marzipan which is surrounded by nougat which is surrounded by chocolate ... approximately 1000000000000 calories but SO. GOOD! :D

My best friend was in Finland last year and she kept sending me the Daim chocolate, because I was just crazy about it - combining it with Milka sounds delicious!

By the way, I forgot to ask - where did you go when you were in Austria? Did you go skiing :D?

Date: 2011-03-13 08:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] magog-83.livejournal.com
That would be HILARIOUS.

I didn't get to ski in Austria. It was actually my first ever foreign holiday when I was 12, and I had always wanted to go to Austria because I had grown up reading the Chalet School novels (set in the Tyrol) and watching Heidi and The Sound of Music and I was a tad obsessed with the thought of chalets and alps. We stayed in Kirchberg, but we travelled up to see a glacier and went on a chair lift up a mountain and I drank my bodyweight in hot chocolate (because they always had that in the chalet school). We happened to be there at the same time as their hot air balloon festival, it was such a brilliant holiday! I would love to go back one day, all the meadows and woodland was like something straight out of my storybooks :)

Date: 2011-03-13 08:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jamie15.livejournal.com
Oh Kirchberg? That's so cool, because I've been there three times already, too :)! We used to go there for our skiing holidays when I was really little and I think I had my first ever ski lessons there too :D! (had them and failed, I might add :) - they wanted to throw me and my cousin out of the skiing school)

Oh, Heidi - I've still got all the videos :). But I've never seen The Sound of Music - everybody in the world seems to have seen it, but if you ask most of the people in Austria they've never heard about it, which is pretty weird ^^ I did watch that cartoon that's based on it, though
