Some ramblings and a few links
Aug. 11th, 2010 10:12 amThings I have been doing in my internet-less life...
I have snuck down to the computing library about twenty minutes away from my flat so I can update my laptop and actually read my flist normal sized. I am being such a drama queen about my lack of internet! But it is still annoying. There was a really interesting post on
shapingdestiny yesterday and I managed a grand total of ONE comment, and that took me about fifteen minutes because my phone browser kept freezing. Then I had to go out and when I got back the post was huge, with loads of interesting discussion, and my comment had about five replies, but it was midnight and I could already see how long it was going to take me to reply to them and/or join in any more discussion. Now I feel like the discussion has finished, and I might look a bit late to the party if I start commenting now. Maybe I’ll have a look again before I have to go.
I have mostly spent my week working on my thesis, which keeps veering wildly between seeming like something which might ACTUALLY GET DONE, and seeming rubbish and amateur and like it has no argument. But I keep typing away.
I did get to go out last night! Which was great, as I haven’t been out in longer than I can remember. I went to dinner and the cinema with my friend and her boyfriend and we saw Eclipse (well, he didn’t), and then had immense amounts of fun mocking it all the way home. My friend started laughing at me when I attempted to claw my own ears off the moment Bella started up her whiny monologue of PAIN over the opening credits. But it was a brilliant night, and I was ridiculously bouncy when I got in. Apparently, doing something over than ‘walk to postgrad office,’ ‘photocopy,’ ‘type thesis in bedroom,’ and ‘buy ready meals,’ suits me.
Anyway, I have managed to involve myself in a few fandom things this week regardless. The best was downloading
lunchy_munchy’s new podfic for Red Window Frames! I have not been able to listen to it yet as I have only just downloaded it to my computer and I doubt everyone in IT support wants to hear Merlin and Arthur’s ridiculous adventures, but based on past work, I am pretty certain it is going to be fantastic, AND HAVE A SONG, YAY.
PODFIC HERE!
Also, because
lunchy_munchy is brilliant,
vensre and I wrote her Birthday Fic. I had a wonderful morning writing Merlin/Arthur (and Percy of course) again after a few weeks away from it, and it sounded like
lunchy_munchy had a very nice day all round.
Lastly, HOW AMAZING WAS SHERLOCK?!! That is all.
Time is ticking, so I’d better post this and get back to work. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Date: 2010-08-11 10:29 am (UTC)Also, SHERLOCK IS AMAZINGNESS AND AWESOMENESS ROLLED INTO ONE! I cannot believe they ended it there. I was screaming at my laptop when the final credits rolled. It may have sounded something like, "What what, why isn't there more?! How am I supposed to survive til next series? Gaaaaah!"
Now I'm off to read your new fic. *scampers off*

Date: 2010-08-11 10:57 am (UTC)IT REALLY WAS. I know he has a temperature of a hundred and werewolf (as Cleolinda says), but really? DOES THE MAN NOT OWN A SHIRT? I had to give it to Edward when he actually commented on the fact.
I think they're starting to go a bit overboard on the vampire make up though, even I was starting to lean towards Team Jacob. We were promised perfect alabaster skin, not 'recently exhumed from the ground' skin :(
Sherlock is so brilliant! I was really excited about it before it started, but it was better than I imagined. I am downloading episode 3 as we speak, so I can watch it many more times. I love how there is a whole fandom ALREADY. Although I seem to be in the minority in quite liking Sherlock/Lestrade...

Date: 2010-08-11 11:17 am (UTC)Me too! I love all things Holmesian. The 2nd ep was a bit weak, I thought, but I still enjoyed it. The fan response is amazing, isn't it? But then, who can resist such awesomeness? I'm not really shipping anyone. I just like them being banter-y and solving crimes together. Also, I WANT SHERLOCK'S COAT!

Date: 2010-08-11 03:16 pm (UTC)Also, I'm still sad about your lack of internet. I don't think you're being dramatic at all. The internet is like air for me.
I totally agree about Eclipse. My sister's really into it and I'm just like "You paid $9 for Taylor Lautner porn that wasn't even explicit." Really, look for good deals, people.
Lastly, GOOD TIDINGS ON YOUR THESIS. This is the only thing I put in caps because it is the most srs business. Also, they make people crazy. DON'T GIVE INTO THE CRAY CRAY.

Date: 2010-08-12 12:48 pm (UTC)Thank you! I'm starting to realise that the internet is like air for me too :( I always used to love replying to comments and reading people's entries and just generally knowing what was going on in fandom, and now I feel like my mum when she phones me excitedly to announce that Deathly Hallows is going to be two films, and we all heard that 18 months ago. The worst will be when the new series airs and I can't get online to discuss it immediately after. That will be weird.

If I didn't know better, I would even think they were pushing Jacob MORE than Edward - maybe this is their stealth plan to make us accept him imprinting on a newborn? ;)

Date: 2010-08-12 12:51 pm (UTC)I just adored Sherlock!! I didn't know what to expect at all, but it was better than anything I could have imagined, the modern update worked so well and Benedict Cumberbatch was PERFECT (and rather attractive too, even when he was sulking). I can't wait for them to make more!!

Date: 2010-08-11 08:24 pm (UTC)i ♥ lunchee with the power of 1000 suns
have yet to see sherlock, but have managed to download it (er, not to rub your lack of internet in your face or anything, because i would go completely insane if i couldn't get to the internet at home. totally balmy).
i'm sure the thesis is great, but i can totally sympathise with the stress and doubt ♥
[*cuddles you*]

Date: 2010-08-12 01:02 pm (UTC):D It's ok, I managed to download Sherlock myself (after watching it on telly too of course). When I was writing this post, I was sneakily downloading it via the uni's free wireless. I made sure I had it to watch for when I went back to the land of No Internet :D But other than that, it continues to be frustrating! I feel like I should put out a general plea of PLEASE EMAIL ME IF ANYTHING MAJOR HAPPENS IN FANDOM, just in case Bradley and Colin say something positive about slash, or if the first pictures of Sir Percy appear.
Thanks for the hugs! And the good wishes for the thesis. I'm in the office at the moment getting a few notes (and stealing internet), but I'm off home again soon to get on with finishing chapters 4 and 5 and probably eat a lot of biscuits. Seriously, I've been eating so many I feel they deserve some sort of shout out in my thesis acknowledgements page!
Hope you're having a good week :) :)

Date: 2010-08-11 11:35 pm (UTC)Sherlock! Marvelous although my heart still belongs to Merlin.

Date: 2010-08-12 01:07 pm (UTC)My heart most definitely belongs to Merlin too :) In fact, sometimes I think that although I may come to love other shows just as much, I'm not sure if I could ever ship any pairing so much as Merlin and Arthur. They are just so perfect!
I have one of those ipod shuffle things, that's pretty good for podfic on long journeys. Although I can use my phone now too, which is great except when you're listening to a funny fic and start laughing at the train station for no apparent reason. Then you do get some funny looks!
