Some minor complaining and a silly vid
Jun. 11th, 2010 09:23 pmI’ve discovered a pattern to my work over the past few months. Every time I have a really good day, when my chapter writing goes well and I’m even home from the postgrad office at a reasonable hour, it is ALWAYS followed by a bad day, where I can’t remember what I was arguing, and it doesn’t make sense, and I feel tired and grumpy. Yesterday went so well, and then today was a bit... blah. And I’ve realised I missed a work meeting tonight which I suspect I am going to get in trouble for. But my brain is like a sieve at the moment, for every bit of history knowledge I stuff in, appointments, birthdays and where I put my keys seems to leak out the other side.
Cut to save your flist!
I’m cheering myself up with tea and chocolate. My lovely mum, who is just one of the nicest people in the world, sent me a parcel full of presents on Wednesday. She’s the one who has to listen to be stressing about my thesis, and apparently I must stress a LOT because she’s wrapped up about ten mini presents which I have to open one at a time whenever I’m having a really bad day. So far I have opened a battenburg cake (my favourite thing) and tonight I unwrapped a box of chocolates with a kinder egg stuffed in there too, which I’ve just been munching. Also, I made a random manuscript icon which I am trying out, it's a bit late for Geoffrey (it's one of my sixteenth century documents that I photographed at the National Archives) but I like to think he'd appreciate the thought anyway :D I really like the way secretary hand looks, all the thick pen marks and the long letter 's'. My ability to read it isn't exactly a transferable skill, but it's been pretty handy this past four years.
Tonight I really need to catch up with comment replies, and I’m also attempting a prompt fic for the mxa picture prompt challenge. I haven't had any lj comment notifications for the past three weeks so comments have been a nightmare, especially replies to comments I've left in other people's journals. If I've ignored you, I apologise, I am slowly but surely finding them all :D
Anyway, because I don’t want to just complain, I’ll leave you with the video I’ve just been watching. I made it for Ven last year to cheer her up after a bad day, and then tonight I was watching it to cheer myself up. So, yeah, have a bit of Monty Python silliness (and watch out for the Coconut Gallop at 0.15).

Date: 2010-06-11 09:34 pm (UTC)I'm a bit concerned about why hotmail started blocking people though. I'm hoping it was just a blip!

Date: 2010-06-12 12:27 am (UTC)Out of context, that shot of
dirtypre-knight Lancelot looks like he just had the most unexpected but fantastic tumble in the hay. :DCoupled with the previous shot of Arthur and Lancelot drinking and looking deep into each others' eyes, well...Ahem! That was great fun to watch. ♥

Date: 2010-06-12 12:37 am (UTC)Thank you :D I'm feeling a bit more cheerful now, having eaten my chocolate and read lots of fic (I like h/c fic with happy endings when I'm feeling crappy), so I'm off to bed now and you never know, I might even get some fic written tomorrow!

Date: 2010-06-13 04:23 pm (UTC)Ken was typically myopic and ignored what people said or didn't know what they were talking about because he doesn't bother doing his day job, and Jas Maz and Megan were supportive. Fiona was amused/bemused at turns.
