THE LES MISERABLES FILM TRAILER IS HERE.

If you hate Les Mis, this thread is probably not the place to tell me because I will cry (and work today has been crap). I'm so excited about this film I nearly broke my trackpad stabbing the play button. I adore the musical of Les Miserables, this is going to be SO GOOD.

BUT ALSO, linked in the comments on Jezebel was this hilarious and amazing clip of Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel (from an American TV show I believe) doing the Valjean/Javert confrontation on a talk show (apparently they do it a lot on set). Honestly, watch it - it is absolutely brilliant and so very very funny XD

LOL! That's from How I Met Your Mother (which lost my interest after a while, I have to say), but NPH and Jason Segal are brilliant.

Oh God, I am here to squee and only squee. I LOVE Les Mis and could sing the entire thing by heart back in the day, - I love the novel too, with all its excesses of writing about convents and the Parisian sewers and the battle of Waterloo. Larger Than Life storytelling from first till last. The musical, I adore it. I've seen it a number of times on stage in London and also elsewhere. Total Les Mis nut here. And I look so much forward to this movie - it *is* looking good from the trailer!! :D

I remember when I read the novel and got to the Battle of Waterloo bit and thought (foolishly) "I'm sure this part won't go on TOO long..." Oh self XD

I cannot wait to see it! It's so amazing on the stage (Les Mis nut here too!) so I am hoping that the actual locations will really add something to the whole feel of it and make it even more emotional and fantastic <3

Haha Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel are awesome. Made me want to watch How I Met Your Mother again. I kinda miss NPH.

I must confess that I've never read nor seen Les Miserables. (pls don't hate me! *hides*) I always planned on reading the novel but never got around to it, though I do have a general idea of how the story goes and I'm familiar with some of the songs. The trailer gave me goosebumps (good goosebumps!). I see that it will be released on December, which gives me time to read the novel before the movie is shown (yes, I am one of those people who needs to read the book before seeing the movie =D).

Here is the best 'summing up Les Mis' video I could find, a sort of abridged version of some of the songs from the Classical Brit Awards last year :D

The musical does change bits from the book, for example the character of Eponine is much more sympathetic in the musical I think, but I still enjoy the musical more than the book (the book was REALLY LONG and depressing).

Ooh thanks! Such wonderful songs. So the movie is based on the musical, right? I hope they don't all die. That would indeed be depressing.

Wait wait wait!

I just realised that the best Eponine of ALL TIME in the musical is Lea Salonga from the Philippines! Here she is in action at the 10th anniversary concert, she is so famous in this role :)

Oh yeah, we're all very proud of Lea. She first became famous internationally when she played Kim in the very first production of Miss Saigon. There was a story going around (not sure how true; it might be an urban legend haha) that when they were practicing a chorus, everyone came in singing the same note except for Lea. And it turned out that she was the only one singing the correct note.
