I think this article is trying to kill my brain D:

"This temporal incoherence becomes manifest in the dissonance engendered by our simultaneous commitments to notions of contextual finitude and contextual transcendence, and by our description of a seemingly natural triune evolutionary managerial sequence of phases that eventually reach closure (a finite linear process), together with our vision of preternaturally unchanging, infinite, absolute objects or phenomena (archival records) and, finally, by our sense of documentary permanence and acknowledgement of historical contingency and change."

That is ONE SENTENCE, people. ONE. I mean, I do actually understand what he's saying there (barely), but bloody hell, would it kill him to cough up that dictionary?

I think I barked a laugh at natural triune evolutionary managerial sequence. Is this person saying we experience a discrepancy between finite and non finite? I really have no idea why people write like that aside from wanting to be deliberately obscure. Because there's technical prose and then there's this, gosh.

That is indeed what he is trying to say. I had to read it through several times to disentangle all the looong words and work it out :/ Why can't he just say it?

He had a field day with his writing software dictionary then. BTW, just bought the Dark Rose. Can't wait till it gets here.

:D :D I like your explanation, it's the only way to think about it without wanting to find the author and kick him. That article was 30 pages long!

I'm reviewing pro-rated compensation in case of breach provisions (math!) which make more sense. I would ban any further contact between the author and thesauruses (thesauri?) for the good of all.

I don't think I'm ever going near his articles again! Which is a shame because the title made it sound like it was PERFECT for what I was researching.

seemingly natural triune evolutionary managerial sequence of phases <- I cracked up right there, which I'd imagine was the exact opposite of the author's intention. :D (Icon entirely intended to illustrate the readers' feelings, and no reflection on you. ;) - Edit: huh, never mind, apparently LJ is refusing to display my chosen icon. Sorry about the multiple edits!)

Yeah, I don't actually understand that particular combination of words at all :/ I only got the gist of the whole thing because of the surrounding paragraphs giving me the necessary context to work it out!!

Someone just bought him a thesaurus for his birthday and he got all excited... :S

I'm going to be writing like this in my dissertation to hide the fact that I have no idea what I'm saying.

Either that or this was his first time on Microsoft Word and he was right clicking everything and checking the 'synonym' options ;)

I also wrote in my dissertation like that. Nothing like a bit of pretentious prose to try and blind the examiner to the fact you're blundering around the subject like an elephant

I think that sentence could do with more words, I can almost understand what he's saying.

This was also my thought. There's such a thing as being TOO succinct after all ;)

I lol at that sentence. Just read it out loud to the hubby. His response was "cupcakes?"

I don't blame your hubby, although my reaction was more "...what the hell is a 'triune'?!?" :D

What ... the ...? I think I barely even understand a word of what they're saying there!

... You know, only yesterday somebody told me that when people write in such complicated sentences, it usually means they have no clue what they're talking about ...

I think you're right! It's the ultimate bluff because who wants to risk looking stupid by saying they don't understand you?? :D
