I just spotted this sellotaped to the fridge. Sometimes my dad is ridiculous. His 'market garden' is our vegetable patch at the top of the garden, where he does in fact grow all these things. He's getting a bit keen on his gardening in his middle age ;)

I also have fond memories of 'ALAN'S NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS 2008' (Resolution one: drink less beer. Resolution two: walk to the pub further away), and the time mum asked him to 'pull the curtains' and he went over to the window and said "Hey there, I haven't seen you around before, can I buy you a drink?" and we all simultaneously eye-rolled.

I am holding out for a few of those strawberries... Or 'strawdudes' as dad likes to call them :D

awe.... that's adorable. :DDD

Perhaps you got your sense of humor from him?;) This is really cute. I don't get "strawdudes" though. Here's hoping you all get to enjoy the berries more than the squirrels and chipmunks do!

That's so cute, though. My husband doesn't grow many vegetables because we have a large deer herd nearby that eats just about everything.

I wonder if the mini-thems will explore the garden at some point?

AHAHA!! I didn't get the curtain thing at first because I'm from the other side of the Atlantic, but that is TOO FUNNY!!!!

Your Dad sounds like quite the character!

He likes his beans, hm?

Hahaha, oh my goodness, I think your dad is hilarious!

"Strawdudes"? Really? Haha.

I think I probably do, he's a big Monty Python fan and that sort of clever but ridiculous humour never fails to make to laugh :D :D

Dad just likes to add 'dudes' onto everything - DO NOT ASK. I have no idea why, but we have 'strawdudes' for strawberries, 'pankdudes' for pancakes and 'crumpdudes' for crumpets. He is very strange <3

I'm sure they would! If you'd like them to ;) Maybe they could help with the watering...

It must be wonderful to have deer herd nearby though! We have some not too far away, but not on the housing estate where I live of course. They're mostly up on Lord Hilton's land.

:D :D It was very silly, we all rolled our eyes, even as we laughed. I always think of it now when someone mentions pulling the curtains!!

He is very fond of them! Unfortunately I'm not so fond, but that seems to be all we have with dinner half the time. I won't mind the strawberries though, that's for sure :D :D

We have strawdudes, pankdudes (pancakes) and crumpdudes (crumpets). I don't know why he has to add 'dudes' onto everything, it's very odd! :D :D He is mostly pretty funny, he likes to play pranks so usually I will get him right back.

He does! He's mostly pretty funny :D He likes to make up silly names for everything, which is something I probably get off him :D

NO, you don't want a deer herd. We used to have over 100 rose bushes and they killed them all. Plus I know you don't have this problem but we have Lyme's Disease spread by them (my husband was horribly sick with it).

I'd be glad to ship you our herd!

As for mini-thems, I love your adventures with them. :D

Date: 2011-06-14 06:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] magog-83.livejournal.com
Aww, well I suppose they must have their downsides then! We do get lyme's disease here, but usually from the water. I don't actually live near enough to any deer to see them on a daily basis like that, although one famously leapt through someone's front window up Writhlington and landed on the sofa!

Are they wild deer?

Date: 2011-06-14 06:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] archaeologist-d.livejournal.com
Yes, wild deer. We can't even hunt them because we are in suburbia and it's not allowed.

Our Lyme's disease comes from ticks who feed off the blood of the deer and it spreads that way when they bite humans.

They are very pretty and I know people who come in from the city who get all excited when they see them. We have vultures, too, but at least they don't eat the roses!

I've been eyeing up this recipe for green beans that, in theory, is one of the most delicious things ever. Some say there should be soy sauce in it too. :3

I love this post. XD

To be fair, I hear 'deer' and think OH MY GOD, BAMBI. I blame Disney completely :D

I saw a humungous vulture when I was in Venezuela, it was massive! And actually quite scary looking. That's the only one I've ever seen though.

Ok, I admit I did snigger, JUST A LITTLE BIT.

There is something too funny about that word <3

I definitely blame dad for some of my ridiculousness, he raised me and my brother on a diet of Monty Python, Spitting Image (temporary Postman Prat and his student overdraft!) and Red Dwarf, so some of it had to rub off :D

This is making me want to go and rewatch 'Death comes to dinner' from Monty Python and the Meaning of Life! "Have you come about the hedge?" :D :D :D

It definitely made me grin when I spotted it <3 Although this isn't quite as bad as when mum bought him a mini weather station for outside and he spent weeks giving us updates every five minutes on the temperature up the garden :D

Sugar with beans?!?!?

I have never heard of such a thing! It sounds rather nice though, you will have to tell me if you try it.

That sign was too hilarious when I went out there - I hope you appreciate his Comic Sans choice?

Ahaha! Strawdudes? I think I like your dad :D! That's brilliant!

My dad is very keen on his gardening too :) - in the summer my mom is not allowed to buy any vegetables from the shop. OR ELSE. :D

Awesome. :) My raspberry canes are starting to fruit. The plums and blueberries won't be done before I move but I can probably persuade my parents to come visit with some!

Your Dad is far cooler than my Dad. :)

I blame Bambi, too!

Yes, the vultures are pretty large - I'd say 3-4 ft wing span. We get clusters of them near my house in the spring but they don't bother anyone and they do clean up the dead deer (cars tend to hit them a lot).

There's obviously something about dads and gardening! Our vegetable patch is really small, but it's dad's pride and joy :D :D

My dad's the same about buying Other Produce. It is strongly frowned upon these days!

Mmmmm that all sounds delicious! Especially the blueberries, I have a weakness for those.
