The shameful moment you discover your 11 year old self's diary and all your delusions about being a young Anne Shirley disappear into the ether.

“Today I had Tech. I finished my fabric roll. I told Becky I fancied Gary and she spread it. I hate her, she said it doesn’t matter. It seems I’ll never be happy”

“Today we had Tech. I hired out a book called Hitler”

“Today we did the play and Gary wrote in my notepad. I framed his writing”

“Today Kim brought Toby the dog round and he weed on the kitchen floor. Me and Kim went for a walk”

“Today I made some biscuits. They were like glue but they tasted ok”

“Today I dropped my dinner all over the floor. I wish I wasn’t such a pratt and more like kim still I am what I am”

“Today we had art. I’m doing a jungle picture. So far I have drawn 1 plant and a tiger’s head”

“I spose you must get fed up of me waffling on about boys, diary, but if you had the choice of boys we have you would too (damn i’ve run out of space)”

“Today I watched a new tv series called Sharpe. A young boy was hanged for stealing a chicken!!! Thats so wrong”

“Today I hired out My Girl 2. I am in love with Austin O’Brien, he is so lush”

“Today I had tech, I saw Adam on the way back and tried to walk normly but slipped over :(“

“Today I jumped Molly. I turned her for the jump and she cantered really fast but this time I was expecting it and over she went. I jumped about 6 times. bye”

“Today I forgot my daps for games”

“I think my eye infection is clearing up”

Oh dear.

Awww, cute :) Makes me want to dig out mine, but I also know that it's mostly full of a made up romance between me and my music teacher!!!

I swear I remembered myself being much more insightful and not quite so boy-obsessed - but I guess that's the same as the way I remember all summer holidays being sunny and blissful!

Luckily I saved my Embarrassing Teacher Crush for when I was 16-17 so by then I'd learned to be a bit more careful with my diary entries - otherwise I'm sure mine would have featured some epic romance too! Thank goodness I didn't have the internet back then.

Lol ikr? At least we did our mooning in private. Don't know how this generation is going to survive the embarrassment in 10 years' time *g*

Aw, that's adorable! Thanks for sharing. I don't even want to dig out old journals. Better if they are burnt.

I have a lot of later ones (I kept diaries quite regularly from around 14 - 24) but I don't really re-read those. I stumbled across this one by accident when I was clearing out one of the drawers under my bed, it's in a lovely hardback 'Horse Lover's Companion' journal XD

The last one is hilarious! So matter of fact and deadpan!
I lost my first diary. But there were no recordings of my great deeds. Just doodles, my mum writing when I lost a tooth, etc.

I have a wonderful journal from when I was about 7-8 (I think?), it's not quite a diary but there is a bizarre mix of what I did that day, drawings, lyrics to pop songs I had made up and Mickey Mouse stickers. My favourite bit of it is when I wrote the stories of the Three Bears and called them the 'Three Bras' throughout XD

I have a lot of teenage diaries and I'm not sure I'm ready to re-read any of them yet.... :/

Oh man yeah, I've still got my first journal, which I got when I was 12. There's poetry in there. Need I say more.

I'm pretty sure I have some poetry in my teenage diaries. I've never been brave enough to re-read it. Apart from the one in this entry, I never kept daily diaries, rather I would just write an entry when I had overwhelming feelings of some kind and, well, YOU CAN IMAGINE.

XD I aim to amuse! I was giggling at these myself, I had no idea 11 year old me was so boy obsessed!

Ugh, are you kidding? These are fabulous and I love them and I won't hear a word said against them.

I have such a weakness for real speech though - seeing how people really talk and think written down, rather than how we imagine they do. I love how totally frank and open these are, and how matter-of-fact - there's no histrionics or posing. It's just you being you. And that Becky sounds like a right cow, by the way.

It does seem as though 11 year old me was fond of telling it like it is XD And also obsessed with boys....

Becky did have a bad habit of doing those kinds of things, we grew up together and she's still my best friend but I learned to guard my secrets a bit closely as a teenager!

Wow you player, you. Gary and Austin O'Brien and Adam. So many boys! Haha. I kept a journal in college. It mostly contained campus gossip and all my angst. I'm too lazy to keep writing in it though. I do re-read it sometimes and snicker at myself.

I got around my laziness in later years by just writing entries when I had overwhelming feelings of some kind - I used plain exercise books rather than daily diaries and that way I didn't feel under pressure to keep writing. I have quite a few teenage diaries but I'm not brave enough to re-read them.
